My General Teaching Philosophy:
I enjoy teaching Spanish because I feel honored to be able to promote the use of Spanish as a second language, not only those with no experience, but also to those with some exposure to the language. My goal as a foreign language instructor is to promote a structured yet comfortable and open environment for overall learning and use of the target language. I have found that while being firm with things such as deadlines but promoting a fun atmosphere in class, my students have responded better to materials and have shown a growth in knowledge of the language. Though tests are beneficial for empirical reasons, in presented assignments such as spoken activities are where I have been able to notice most improvement in my students. I believe this is due to the creative aspect of these assignments, which have allowed my students to have fun with the language while being able to communicate their message. The students listening to their peers practice their comprehension, while in writing assignments all students are able to refine their writing and reading skills.
